"Listen to them... the children of the night... what music they make!" Dracula, Bram Stoker.

I've been reading a lot the past two weeks... all that to find more information for my paper... So... it started with this: Joyce's Stephen Hero, which i really enjoyed... It is like the "draft" of The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I like it because it is as fresh as Joyce's literary carrier was when he wrote it, but showing so much cleverness already! It gave me insights into his second novel mentionned above, so it is an important read for me.

Then i went on with Michel Butor's five-volume Repertoire, each containing twenty-one essays about literature and art in general! I have to admit that i did not read all the essays.. because researches need to be as efficient as possible. So, i chose the essays that seemed the most useful and relevant for my paper... even though i sometimes read articles that had nothing to do with my subject, but that i could not just leave behind without perusing... It is always so difficult to leave interesting articles aside, because you know you will be passing by a piece of knowledge, not knowing whether you will have the opportunity to catch it in your life or have lost it forever...

Apparte: I always fancy that at the very instant of our death we may be invaded by the total knowledge and understanding of the world... what we have been after all our life...

So, this is Repertoire:

I just finished reading two essays by John Ruskin to be found in the following book. They are not only essays about art, they also deal with society of the 19th century as a clever and well-written criticism of that era, but which easily applies to our own... I really enjoyed it!

Finally, I've just started today an interesting book about Art of the end of the 19th and through the 20th century. It is rather useful as i can get more information (but still not enough) about each main artistic movement of those times. They are directly linked to my subject as they are contemporary with the writings of Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. I do hope this read will turn out to be very beneficial for me! If you are interested in Art History and that you don't know much about it, you may want to check it!
